(Bird Island MN-) A free food distribution for those in need of food, those working to make ends meet due to the COVID-19 crisis is being held Monday, the 12th of October, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at the Renville County Fairgrounds, 510 Main Street South, Bird Island, MN. Enter from Dogwood Ave to 3rd St. South, follow signs – enter East end of Fair Grounds only! Watch for signs. Limited to 500 households this distribution, only two (2) households per vehicle.
A pre-packed box of produce and meat, along with a gallon of milk is what Second Harvest Heartland has shared is planned to be distributed safely through a drive-up/curbside pick-up model. Food will be loaded into trunks by volunteers who will maintain social distance. Please do NOT get out of your vehicles, volunteers will assist you. No registration and only basic demographic information will be asked of participants such as the ages of individuals in each household. No Names addresses or other identifying information will be asked.
The event is being hosted by the Renville County Food Shelf and United Community Action Partnership (UCAP) with food provided from the COVID Food Assistance Program (CFAP) in the collaboration with Second Harvest Heartland.
“This is a resource for the whole community; you or someone you know may benefit from this free food distribution as all have been impacted by the hardships due to the coronavirus crisis.” said Ardis Wertish, President, Renville County Food Shelf. “You are most welcome to participate in this program and learn more about other food resources available for people in this area.” Wertish said.
