(Bird Island MN-) A free food distribution for those in need of food and those working to make ends meet due to the COVID-19 crisis takes place today at the Renville County Fairgrounds in Bird Island from 3:00pm to 5:00 p.m. Watch for signs to go to the East end of the fairgrounds for entry and pickup. The event is being hosted by the Renville County Food Shelf and United Community Action Partnership (UCAP) with food provided from the COVID Food Assistance Program (CFAP) in collaboration with Second Harvest Heartland. Food Shelf President Ardis Wertish says “This is a resource for the whole community; you or someone you know may benefit from this free food distribution as all have been impacted by the hardships due to the coronavirus crisis. You are most welcome to participate in this program and learn more about other food resources available for people in this area.”
Pre-packed boxes of produce, dairy and meat will be distributed safely through a drive-up/curbside pick-up model. Food will be loaded into trunks by volunteers who will maintain social distance. No registration or paperwork is necessary and only basic demographic information will be asked of participants such as the ages of individuals in each household. No Names addresses or other identifying information will be asked.
