Kandiyohi County COVID-19 vaccination rate goes up 3 percent

  • Updated

(Willmar MN-) The vaccination rate in Kandiyohi County has shot up to over 50%, according to the Minnesota Department of Health. For several months Kandiyohi had been at 59%, but then earlier this month the DHS re-adjusted their reporting to more accurately reflect the counties of residence of people who got their shots in the county, and the rate dropped to 47.7 percent. But Monday's report now shows the county at 51 percent of the eligible population having had at least their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The Department of Health did not provide any explanation for the sudden 3.3% increase overnight from last Thursday to last Friday.

Monday's report showed 3010 additional cases of coronavirus and 22 more deaths, including a person in the early 70s from Stearns County. Locally, there were 231 additional cases reported in Stearns County, 62 in Kandiyohi, 34 in Meeker, 10 in Chippewa, 5 in Swift, 4 in Pope and 3 additional cases reported in Renville County. The figures were based on approximately 50,700 test results.

Monday's report was from the time period from 4 a.m. last Thursday to 4 a.m. last Friday. The numbers from the weekend will be released in Tuesday's report.

Pandemic totals....773,227 cases, 745,745 recoveries and 8559 deaths.
