Local health group issues update and local COVID-19 situation

  • Updated

(Willmar MN-) The Kandiyohi County Health and Medical Group has issued a news release regarding the current COVID-19 situation in the county:

At this time, COVID-19 infections continue to spread across Kandiyohi County and the surrounding area. The resulting COVID-19 cases are straining the human resources needed to keep our vital health care services, educational institutions, local businesses, and public infrastructure operating. The omicron variant is highly contagious and the number of people getting sick is increasing every day by numbers we haven’t seen before. On January 11, 2022, Carris Health tightened visitor restrictions and required medical-grade masking at all of their facilities. These requirements were implemented to strengthen protection against the highly contagious Omicron variant of COVID-19. The Kandiyohi County Health and Medical Group, made up of the teams listed above, is urging all residents of Kandiyohi County and the surrounding area to:

 Get vaccinated – and get your booster

 If you are unwell, have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19, get tested  Stay home if you are sick.

 Wear a medical-grade mask in public areas. A cloth mask is not adequate protection at this time. A medical grade mask can be a disposable, paper mask for one-time use. When held up to the light, you should NOT be able to see through it.

 Avoid crowded settings  Practice good handwashing and keep at least 6 feet away from people from other households.

Kandiyohi County’s Health and Medical Group is asking that the residents of Kandiyohi County join together now and in the upcoming weeks as we try to mitigate and slow down the spread of COVID-19 in our region. The 320 active cases listed does not accurately reflect the true number of active cases of COVID-19 in Kandiyohi County. At home test results are not reported to the Minnesota Department of Health or the CDC and not included in any data collection. None of these positive cases have been included in positive case counts.

The Kandiyohi County Health and Medical Group includes Carris Health, The City of Willmar, Kandiyohi County, Willmar Police and Fire, Kandiyohi County Public Health, Emergency Management and The Sheriff's Department.
