Willmar Schools will continue to feed kids this summer

(Willmar MN-) The Willmar School District will continue to provide meals for children even after the school year ends. Willmar School District Food Service Director Annette Derouin says they will be changing the bus routes they've been using for the past two months delivering meals to students...

...Derouin says since mid-March they've been delivering 44-to-4500 meals per day, feeding about 2000 kids, which about 55% of the amount they would normally feed in school. The summer food program will be available to all children in Willmar, regardless if they are enrolled in Willmar Public Schools. They will not be running buses to Pennock, Blomkest or Svea. Derouin says a $75,000 donation from Blue Cross/Blue Shield is making the summer meal program possible...

...The meals will be free of charge, and you can go to the school district website to check the bus routes. Derouin says the school meal budget is self-sufficient, and seperate from the school's general fund, so no money meant for education goes toward meals. The meal budget is funded through school lunch fees and subsidies from the state and federal governments.
