Willmar students begin new semester with "distance learning"

(Willmar MN-) Students in the Willmar School District began their Spring Semester Monday using distance learning because of the Covid-19 virus. ...Students in grades 6-through-12 have ipads to do their lessons on. Thomas says while some outside the Willmar city limits have difficulty getting high speed internet, the vast majority are able to use their pads...

...The Willmar School District uses a program called Schoology for online learning, and on Monday and Tuesday students had difficulty logging onto it because of all the people trying to use it. Thomas says students and parents should not stress out, and eventually the bugs will be worked out. As for classes that require hands-on learning, students are given instruction on activities they can perform at home to qualify for physical education, and some students have received art supplies. Willmar Schools Superintendent Jeff Holm says he hopes the school year can finish on time using distance learning...

...Holm says sadly activities like the prom have had to be cancelled, and at this point he doesn't know what commencement will look like.
