The 15th Annual Radio For Relief broadcast with Lakeland Broadcasting stations Q102, KWLM, Big Country and The Train happened on Friday, March 20, 2020 from 7 am to 10 am. Jennie-O Turkey Store was the Radio For Relief Corporate Partner with Lakeland Broadcasting.
As of 10 am on March 20, 2020, $55,418 in monetary donations were collected for the Kandiyohi County Food Shelf through Radio For Relief. That amount included three anonymous donors who each matched up to $3,000 for online donations made between 7:30 am and 8:30 am plus the $5,000 match that Lakeland Broadcasting made for online donations made between 8:30 am and 10 am. In 2019, Radio For Relief collected a combined total of cash/food of $33,875. This puts the 15 year Radio For Relief total to 590,412 in combined cash/food donations.
The event to help the Kandiyohi County Food Shelf normally takes place with broadcast updates on location at the Food Shelf, but this year the location was altered due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
From 7 am to 10 am, the Lakeland Broadcasting Morning Shows on Q102, KWLM, Big Country and The Train featured interviews that were recorded in advance with several Kandiyohi County residents who have used the Food Shelf and wanted to share their experiences. Lakeland Broadcasting also aired interviews via telephone with businesses, schools and organizations who had been collecting donations for Radio For Relief.
The Kandiyohi County Food Shelf is able to take a $20 cash donation and purchase $200 worth of food through their partnership with Second Harvest Heartland.
