[Willmar, MN]—In the first game of a CLC girls and boys basketball doubleheader at the Big Red Gym, the Willmar girls team was victorious over visiting Sauk Rapids 64-29.

The Cardinals got the lead quickly and went on a 21-0 run to start off the first half. Katelyn Murphy scored all 11 of her points in the half to lead the charge on the offensive side.

It was another great night for Carly Wedel who had a game high 16 points, 8 of which were in the first half.

Defensively Willmar was stellar and held the Storm to only 13 points in the opening half, jumping to a 38-13 lead heading into halftime.

In the second half it was junior Ashley Prahl who stepped up and contributed 10 points, going 2/3 on 3 pointers and shooting well from the floor. Sauk Rapids just couldn’t keep up with Willmar’s offensive attack and the Big Red Gym saw its usual great performance from the Willmar girls.

Tune in Saturday at 2:45pm and listen to KWLM sports intern Zach Courtney call his first play by play game for the Willmar girls. The Cardinal girls are host to Brainerd. Game time is set for 3:00pm.

Andy plays baseball and is looking forward to taking the field for the Cardinals again this spring.
