(Waite Park MN-) The Stearns County Sheriff's Department has identified the St. Cloud man who drowned at Quarry Park this weekend. He was 18-year-old Zakariya Aden Odowa. Shortly after 8 p.m. Saturday the Stearns County Water Patrol Staff working at Quarry Park in Waite Park were patrolling near Quarry Two when they were notified of an individual who had jumped into the quarry and never surfaced. Patrol Deputies quickly responded and learned Odowa never surfaced after jumping off the end of the floating dock.
Waite Park Fire Department and Mayo Ambulance were dispatched to the scene, as well as the Stearns/Benton County Dive Team. The Waite Park Fire Department and Stearns County Sheriff’s Department Deputies used boats to try and recover Odowa prior to the arrival of the Dive Team but were unsuccessful.
A diver was deployed and quickly located Odowa in approximately 25’ of water. He was transported to shore by members of the fire department and Mayo Ambulance began life-saving efforts. Odowa was transported to the St. Cloud Hospital and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

On Friday, 34-year-old Nathen Waldo died after being run over by a pontoon boat in Aitkin County, resulting in the boater being charged for boating while intoxicated. On Saturday afternoon, 46-year-old Chandra Laghuvaram died while swimming in the St. Croix River near William O'Brien State Park. Then on Sunday, a nine-year-old died after being pulled from Carver Lake.
