Sundown at Sunrise

(Marshall MN-)  Former State Representative Marty Siefert has written a book about an axe murder that took place in Redwood County 100 years ago. Siefert, of Marshall, is now an attorney for a Twin Cities firm and says he finally had time to sit down and write a book he's been thinking about for many years...

...Siefert says he did some research, and found out the gruesome tale he was told as a child was all true...

...Seifert says he initially had 3000 copies, but they've been selling like hotcakes...

...Siefert says the killer was William Kleeman, and the victims were Kleeman's wife Maud Petrie Kleeman and the couple's four children, ranging in age from 6 months to 6 years old. He says after the book was out, a relative of Maud's from Arizona sent Siefert a picture of the young woman after he had given up on ever finding a picture of the victim. The book was recently number 2 on Amazon's lists of real crime books, and people have told him reading it is like going back in time to early 20th century rural Minnesota. Siefert says he won't spoil the ending, but says adding to the intrigue was a possible relationship between William Kleeman and a teacher at a nearby school.
