(Willmar MN-) The Willmar School District and the Willmar Salvation Army are doing their best to make sure kids don't go hungry this summer. This week the Salvation Army's Mobile Outreach Meal Program began and will run through August 16th. ...There is a lot of need for free meals in Willmar. The statewide average for students who qualify for free or reduced school meals is 37.1 percent. But Willmar Schools Superintendent Jeff Holms says in Willmar, 63.8 percent of the students qualify...

...Deroiun says the annual budget for food programs in The Willmar School District is around 3 and a half million dollars. Holm says the district will not refuse to serve a meal to a student based on their ability to pay. But he urges anyone with an unpaid balance to work with the district to avoid being taken to court. Holm says they will not take a tray out of a student's hands if they have an unpaid balance, and they will not withhold a diploma on that basis either.
