(Willmar MN-) A Willmar man arrested after allegedly pointing a gun at police officers last August had a court appearance Monday in Kandiyohi County District Court. Police say 41-year-old Justin Quigley was drunk August 14th when they gave him a ride home from the Willmar American Legion. They say when they got to his house in Southwest Willmar he became combative, kicked a police officer, ran into the house and later appeared at a window pointing a gun at officers. Quigley faces a felony charge of 1st Degree Assault-Use of Deadly Force Against a Peace Officer and gross misdemeanor 4th Degree Assault-Physically Assaulting a Peace Officer.
A contested omnibus hearing took place this afternoon via remote technology in which different legal issues connected to the case were discussed before Judge Stephen Wentzel. Wentzel ordered the prosecution and the defense attorneys to send him briefs regarding legal issues or questions in the case, after which he will take the matter under consideration and will issue a decision. Court records did not say what the issue or issues were, and no future court date has yet been set. Quigley is currently free on $50,000 unconditional bail.
