(Fairfax MN-) A Fairfax gas station employee is hospitalized after being shot this morning. The Renville County Sheriff's Department says shortly before 8 a.m. they were called to a gas station/convenience store/auto repair shop in Fairfax on a report that a person in the office had been shot. When they arrived, officers located and arrested a suspect, 60-year-old Michael Klatt from Fairfax. Klatt had been disarmed before officers arrived. The victim was store employee Kenneth Eckstein, age 55 of Hector, and he had been shot in the hand and face. Eckstein was treated at the scene, then flown to North Memorial Hospital in the Twin Cities where he has undergone surgery and his current condition is unknown. Klatt was not a store employee and is at the Renville County Jail pending formal charges, and is expected to make his first appearance in Renville County District Court on Tuesday, January 15th, 2019.
