Kandi Works

(Willmar MN-) A Kandiyohi County program that has helped countless people with disabilities over the past 58 years had ended. Kandi Works Developmental Achievement Center began in 1962, but the Kandiyohi County Board this month voted to dissolve it's 501C-3 status, and it's assets will be liquidated. County Board Chair Harlan Madsen says it was a sad day, but the costs of running the program were piling up due to a variety of issues like transportation and federal government regulations...

...Madsen says Kandi Works ran a candle shop and gift shop in Kandiyohi and both were hit by the Amazon effect. Kandi Works had been serving about 40-to-50 clients, providing employment opportunities. Madsen says the county was subsidizing the program to the tune of about 30-to-37 thousand dollars a month. He says there will be an auction of Kandi Works property at the end of October, and any assets left over will be turned over to the county on the condition that it be used to help the developmentally disabled.
