(Willmar, MN) -- The board of commissioners in Kandiyohi County will take a vote today on whether it wants to continue to be a location where refugees are settled. The vote is required after a presidential executive order issued in September. It is aimed at enhancing state and local involvement in refugee resettlement. The U-S Department of State says only states, counties, or county-equivalents can give approval. The vote is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Information on social media last night indicated some county residents plan to attend the meeting and encourage county officials to vote no, or at least wait until they present information on the cost of refugee resettlement to county residents before they vote.
