Maddy Freking

(Andover MN-) The Coon Rapids-Andover Little League Team's world series run may be over, but it provided a lifetime of memories for the family of 12-year-old Maddy Freking of Andover. Maddy's grandparents are Jim and Mary Mootz of Willmar, and Mary says they are very excited and proud of how Maddy and her team played. Maddy is just the 19th girl to play in the Little League World Series, and the first since 2014. Mary says it was thrilling to watch Maddy, who normally plays second base, pitch on Sunday against Virginia...

...Mary says the national media has focused on Maddy, especially since the team advanced from the preliminary round in Indianapolis, and grandma says Maddy has handled it well...

...Mary says the coaches and the rest of the team has been very protective of Maddy, especially since they arrived at Williamsport for The Little League World Series. The team was eliminated by the team from Louisiana on Monday. Maddy is the daughter of Jim and Mary Mootz' daughter Jessica and her husband Rich, and has played ball since starting with Tee-ball when she was 4 or 5. She has an older brother Evan, who will be 14 next week...

...Now that all the baseball is done, Mary says Maddy will be getting ready to go back to school at Andover Middle School where she'll be a 7th grader this year.
