Baker

(St. Paul MN-) Last session Republicans opposed Governor Tim Walz plan to give so-called Walz Checks as a way to return some of the state's budget surplus to taxpayers. The governor is still talking about rebate checks and now so are Republicans. A plan announced by GOP leaders last month would give married couples a rebate check of $2500, and single filers a $1250 rebate, regardless of income. The governor's plan would give $2000 to married filers who earn less than $150,000-a-year. Republican Representative Dave Baker says rebates are not his preferred method of returning the surplus to taxpayers, but it's better than nothing...

...Republican Senator Andrew Lang agrees...rebates may be a necessary evil...

...Both Lang and Baker still prefer tax cuts, especially the Social Security Income Tax. DFL legislative leaders have been very lukewarm in their support of rebate checks this session, despite Governor Walz being in favor.
