(Kerkhoven MN-) The Swift County Board has rejected a business' request to sell cigarettes because of it's proximity to KMS High School in Kerkhoven. Dollar General had applied for a tobacco license, but the Swift County Monitor News reports the county board denied the request at their meeting September 3rd because it is right across a narrow street from the KMS High School parking lot. Dollar General is building a new store on Highway 12, with 15th Street North separating it from the high school. Dollar General has a right to appeal. A somewhat similar situation developed two years ago as a Casey's Convenience Store was being built in Renville, and the city council there decided to amend their tobacco sales ordinance to allow the sales.
