(Austin, MN) -- A sea of orange will blanket Minnesota fields this weekend as the 2019 pheasant season opens (Saturday). The Austin area is hosting the Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener. Governor Tim Walz helped dedicate a 140-acre wildlife management area Friday afternoon and attended the community banquet in Austin. He announced that Fairmont will be the site of next year's opener. The Minnesota D-N-R's Dan Ruiter (RITE'-ur) is telling hunters that safety comes first this weekend. He says to make you are wearing the proper amount of orange, and have your dog wear orange as well, and "always know your target and what's behind your target."
