Citizen Recognition Award

(Willmar MN-) A MnDot employee has been recognized by the Willmar Police Department for his actions while a man threatened suicide on a bridge last Friday. Brandon Winzenburg yesterday was given a Citizen's Recognition Award for his "quick thinking and actions to keep others safe." Police Chief Jim Felt says on Friday morning, they and other agencies responded to the area of South First Street and the Hwy 23 bypass on the report of a suicidal individual on top of the bridge...

...Brandon Winzenburg observed numerous vehicles driving through the area, posing a safety issue to the officers, motorists and the individual in crisis. Winzenburg was able to position the MnDOT snowplow he was driving to direct traffic away from the area until additional resources could respond to the scene. Chief Felt says negotiators were able to get the individual to peacefully surrender...

...The man was brought to Rice Memorial Hospital for evaluation. Felt says they "greatly appreciate Brandon's assistance that morning. He was presented a Citizen's Recognition Award for his quick thinking and actions to keep others safe"
