(Willmar MN-) The Kandiyohi County Relay for Life takes place this evening in a new location. For the past several years it has been held at the Willmar Middle School track, but this year it takes place at Bill Taunton Stadium. The fundraiser for The American Cancer Society will start at 6pm with an opening ceremony, followed by the survivor lap prior to The Willmar Stingers baseball game starting at 7:05pm. Stinger's Co-Owner Marc Jerzak says they started to talk about teaming up with The Relay For Life last fall...
...Jerzak says this year’s event will not only include the baseball game, but also have fundraising activities, a silent auction, the survivor lap and a luminaria ceremony. Survivors will also receive dinner at the game. Jerzak says the luminary walk will take place both in the stadium parking lot and into portions of the stadium itself. He says he's heard of other Relays for Life taking place at ball parks, but never during a game itself.
Last year, the Relay For Life of Kandiyohi County raised $101,441 for The Cancer Society. The Kandiyohi County Relay For Life was first held at Hodapp Field, then moved to the Willmar Junior High track about 15 years ago.
That Check-in and On-Site Registration begins at 4 pm. Silent Auction and luminaria sales are from 4 pm to 8 pm
