(Olivia MN-) Several lawmakers have taken Governor Tim Walz to task for comments he made regarding the Minnesota National Guard. Earlier this week, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said Walz hesitated to deploy The Guard to assist with riot control. Walz, a veteran Minnesota Guardsman himself, chided Frey for asking for the guard's help, saying what he would receive would not be massively trained troops, but "19-year-olds who are cooks!" Senator Andrew Lang of Olivia is also a Major in the Minnesota National Guard, and says "to be talked down to like that is unimaginable"...

...Lang says with all the time Walz has spent wearing the uniform, he has to wonder if that's what the governor really thinks about The Guard...

...Senator Scott Newman of Hutchinson issued a news release saying Walz should apologize. Newman said "While he and Mayor Frey were dithering, those '19-year-old cooks' were busy rescuing Minneapolis. The riots were so bad that the entire Guard was called out for the first time since World War II, yet the governor responds by insulting them? They deserve better."

At this time Walz' office has not issued any kind of response to his calls for an apology.
