(Burnsville, MN) -- A Minnesota State Patrol officer is facing criminal sexual conduct charges in Dakota County. Court records say 36-year-old Shawn Barta of Burnsville began having inappropriate contact with a 14-year-old girl in April of 2018. The girl is cognitively delayed and functions at about a sixth-grade level. Burnsville police were first made aware of the allegations on July 7th from the alleged victim's father. The girl told family members both she and Barta would be undressed and that he would touch her sexually. Trooper Barta denies the allegations and has been placed on leave.
