Celebrate the Light

(Willmar MN-) The inaugural year of the Celebrate the Light of the World Christmas light and music display at Robbins Island Park in Willmar is in the books after the final note was played and the last light flashed Sunday night. The event, previously held at the Chad Koosman home north of Willmar, is a fundraiser for the Salvation Army, and final figures on what was raised through the kettle at the display aren't available yet, but Willmar Fests Board Member Jon Schmidt, who was in charge of setting it up, says they learned a lot...

...Schmidt says they have some technical issues to work out, like doing a better job inter-connecting the light and music programs so people who go through the display don't have to change radio settings halfway through. And squirrels caused some problems by chewing on wires. Schmidt says the Willmar Fests Board met last night to begin the planning for next year...

...Schmidt says they haven't started taking down the lights yet. He says some of the equipment will likely have to stay in place until the snow melts. He thanks all who helped with the set up and the nightly operation and those who will help with the take down.
