Willmar Police

(Willmar MN-) Willmar police were able to disarm a woman with a knife who was threatening to kill herself on Wednesday. Willmar Police Chief Jim Felt says at 11:25 a.m. they were contacted by a person who said an acquaintance was reporting suicidal thoughts, and they could no longer get ahold of her, and police were asked to check on the woman. Officers responded to the person’s residence in the 600 block of 2nd St SW and found her. While talking with her, she produced a knife and held it to her own neck. Officers used verbal de-escalation techniques and separated the woman from another family member for safety. When the woman did not respond to de-escalation or comply, officers were able to get into position to use a TASER to temporarily incapacitate her. The 40 year old woman from Willmar was transported to Carris Hospital for a mental health evaluation. No one was injured during the incident and no charges are expected at this time.
