(Willmar MN-) A Willmar man involved in a series of violent incidents last summer has a court appearance Tuesday regarding his mental competency. 32-year-old Darnell Thomas is charged with assault for allegedly attacking two people with a sword in Willmar June 21st, and with robbery and assault for allegedly robbing a man and woman at knifepoint in Willmar July 1st. At the time of these incidents, Thomas was on probation for a 2018 terroristic threats conviction in Swift County. Last September Thomas was deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial, but Kandiyohi County Attorney Shane Baker says Thomas has since been deemed competent. His latest competency exam will be reviewed in court Tuesday, and it's likely pre-trial and jury trial dates will be scheduled.
