(Willmar MN-) A pre-trial hearing takes place Wednesday afternoon for Steven Wood, the Willmar man accused of swindling charitable organizations around the country. Wood, 56, is charged with 6 felony counts of swindling and is currently free without bail. Court records say Wood would call various organizations, pretending to be an organization official, and would ask the organization to send him money from their coffers. Court records say the groups have sent him checks totaling nearly $13,000 up until this past January. A motorcycle group out of Oregon became suspicious and called Willmar police. Wood will appear before Judge Stephen Wentzel in Kandiyohi County District Court Wednesday at 1:15 p.m.
