(Benson MN-) A former Swift Falls man finally has his High School Diploma...73 years late. 91-year-old Clifford Hanson is a resident of Lake Ridge Care Center in Buffalo, and on Monday he was presented with an honorary diploma from Benson High School. Hanson grew up on a livestock farm near Swift Falls, and when he was in the 8th grade, his father got sick and Cliff had to drop out of school to help on the farm. He would have graduated from Benson High School in 1946. He became a farmer, then moved to the Twin Cities where he worked at Tastee Bread, became a welder and later a school bus driver. Along the way he got married and had 4 kids. Staff at his nursing home told his story to officials at Benson High School, and on Monday they held a ceremony and awarded Hanson his long-awaited diploma. No word on if he plans to pursue college.
