Donald Ramstad

Donald Dean Ramstad, age 89, of Sacred Heart, died Thursday, July 25, 2019, at the RenVilla Nursing Home in Renville.  A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sacred Heart.  The Rev. Dale Svendsen will officiate.  Burial with military honors will be in the church cemetery.  Visitation will be Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Community Center.  Visitation will continue on Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the church in Sacred Heart.  In Lieu of flowers, memorial are preferred.

Donald Dean Ramstad was born February 18, 1930, in Crookston, Minnesota to George and Emma (Ohman) Ramstad.  He began his education in Crookston, Minnesota and graduated from high school in 1948.  Donald served his country for 2 years in the U.S. Army and was discharged as a Sergeant in 1954.  He earned Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees at Bemidji State College.  Donald was united in marriage to Shirley Anne Macpherson on September 1, 1956, in Brandon Manitoba. In 1957, they moved to Browns Valley where Don taught school, and in 1960, they moved to Sacred Heart and he taught school there until his retirement.  He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and served on the church council for 6 years. He was also a past member of the Sacred Heart American Legion and Lions Club, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 60 years. He enjoyed gardening, canning, reading, playing bridge, and traveling to Hawaii. 

Survivors include his wife Shirley of Sacred Heart and his children Cheryl (and Al) Arnold of Owatonna, Cindy (and Dan) Loe of Sacred Heart, Ritchie (and Lisa) of Eagle River, AK and Pam (and Jon) Miller of Maple Lake, and his grandchildren: David, Matt, Nathan, Kate, Adam, Ryan, Mackenzie, Michael and Mary; step-grandchildren Kayla and Bret; great-grandchildren Simon, Samuel, Connor, and Britta; and step-great-grandchildren Baylee, Emma, and Owen.  He is also survived by his brother, Robert of Ada, MN and other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Evelyn and Dorothy.
