Dorothy L. Negen Blokzyl, age 97, of Willmar, passed away Friday morning, Jan. 7, at Bethesda Grand in Willmar. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13, at First Christian Reformed Church in Prinsburg. Interment will be at Emden Christian Reformed Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Central Minnesota Christian School are preferred. Dorothy Loris Negen Blokzyl was born on March 1, 1944, in Prinsburg, Minnesota, the oldest of 13 children to Harold and Irene (Poelstra) Kleinhuizen. She grew up and received her education throughout Kandiyohi County and then stayed at home to help her mother raise the family. In 1943, Dorothy was married to Dick Negen. They lived and farmed 6 miles South of Prinsburg. She worked hard as a farmer's wife and homemaker. In 1969, they moved into Prinsburg and she began working as a bookkeeper for the family plumbing and heating business. In 1981, Dick passed away. In 1984, Dorothy married John Blokzyl. They lived on Green Lake in Spicer and moved to Willmar in 2000. They enjoyed spending 17 winters together in Texas. John passed away in 2007. Since 2018, Dorothy has resided at Bethesda Grand in Willmar.
Dorothy was a member of the First CRC Church and active in missions club, bible study and as a Sunday School teacher. She enjoyed playing bingo, crafts, crocheting, baking and the annual family camping trips in her younger years. She loved being together with her family and cherished all of her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
She is survived by her four children, Janice (and Ronald) Damhof of Willmar, Gary (and Karlene) Negen of Frazee, Dalen (and Pam) Negen of Paynesville and Dennis (and Kathy) Negen of Lakeville; eleven grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren and sixteen great great grandchildren. Also surviving are several stepchildren and all of their families, besides many other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands and twelve siblings.
