Joan Cash, 89, of Spicer, died Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at her home on Lake Florida near Spicer.
A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar.
Hazel Joan Cash was born July 19, 1933, in Little Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Bernard and Hazel (Olson) Winzenburg. She grew up on the family farm near Freedhem, Minnesota, and attended school in Little Falls, graduating from Little Falls High School. She then attended the St. Gabriel School of Nursing in Little Falls. In 1956, she married Donald Cash and they made their home in Arkansas, where Donald was stationed in the Army at Ft. Smith. In 1958, they moved to the Bertha-Hewitt area and later to Little Falls and Joan worked as a nurse at Browerville Hospital and St. Gabriel Hospital in Little Falls. In 1965, they moved to Willmar, where Joan worked at the Christian Rest Home and later taught in the CNA program at the Willmar Vo-Tech. Joan retired in 1991 and they moved to their home on Lake Florida.
Joan was a member of the Church of St. Mary in Willmar. She and Donald enjoyed traveling around the world, visiting Hawaii, Europe, Africa, the Holy Land, and numerous other places. She loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed watching her children’s sports and activities and spending time with them at the lake.
She is survived by her seven children: Timothy (Sandy) Cash, Dennis (Renee) Cash, Brian (Sheila) Cash, Craig (Jessie) Cash, Kay (Brian) Olson, Karla (Joel) Halpine, and Kyle (Laura) Cash; fourteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Marge Erickson and Joyce Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Donald in 2001; three brothers: George, Bernie, and Keith Winzenburg; and a sister: Jane Plante.
