Orville Jacobson, 88, of Willmar, died Tuesday, July 7th at his home in Willmar. His memorial service will be 3:00 pm, Sunday, July 19th at Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar with visitation one hour prior to the service. www.hafh.org
Orville was born May 9, 1932, in Clinton, MN, the son of Jonas and Hilda (Larson) Jacobson. He graduated from Willmar High School in 1950.
On March 20, 1954, he was united in marriage to Janelle Melin. Janelle preceded him in death on October 16, 1977. On July 26, 1980, he was united in marriage to Gertrude Thayer Werder in Willmar and they lived in Northfield and Henning before returning to Willmar.
Orville initially farmed and later worked for the Willmar State Hospital, United States Postal Service and Federal Aviation Administration as an air traffic controller and also St. Olaf College. He drove bus for Northfield and Wadena and later Willmar Bus Service until he was 80 years old.
He was a man of many talents, even taking up knitting in his retirement, making over 40 Norwegian sweaters. Orville was also an expert gardener. His faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was what made him a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Orville is survived by his children: Daryl (and Renae) Jacobson of Verndale; Jolene Grayum of Eden Prairie; Larry (and Cherie) Jacobson of Waseca; Mary (and David) Thorpe of Clear Lake; Susan (and Daniel) Halvorson of Willmar; Lorry (and Joel) Carlson of Willmar; Bill Werder of Magstadt, Germany; Daniel (and Victoria) Werder of the United Kingdom; 30 grandchildren and a multitude of great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Curtis Jacobson, Signe Rambow, Pearl Almquist and sisters-in-law, Mildred Jacbson, Sharon Melin and Arlyce (and Wally) Klause; as well as several nieces and nephews. Orville’s family would like to express their appreciation to Carol Erickson for all the support and friendship she showed to their dad the last several months.
Besides his parents and first wife, Janelle; he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, on July 25, 2017, daughter, Linda Darnell; daughter-in-law, Traudl Werder and several siblings and their spouses.
