(Minneota, MN)-- Covid put a glitch in the Cardinals’ Volleyball schedule on Thursday night as the Match with Apollo was cancelled. However, it presented an opportunity for 2 undefeated teams to face off as the 11-0 Cards traveled to Minneota to take on the 12-0 Vikings. However, the Cards had a long ride home as they lost heir first match of the season 3 sets to 1.
Willmar got within 1 point at 4-5 in the first set, but then it was all Minneota as they won 25-15.
The second set was what one would expect from 2 undefeated teams. The Vikings led until the Cards tied it at 10. Although there were several ties throughout the remainder of the set, the Cards never trailed again and won the set 25-23.
The Vikings never trailed, in spite of a 7-0 run by the Cards, and won the third set 25-19.
The Cards were leading 6-5 in the third set when the Vikings took the lead and never looked back winning the fourth set 25-18.
Next up for the Cardinals is an away match at Minnetonka. Due to the state mandated “pause”, this will be their final match of the year. The next game broadcast on KWLM will be Friday night when the Cardinal football team will travel to Detroit Lakes to take on the Lakers. Join us for the Rambo pregame show at 5:40 with Todd Bergeth and Hall of Fame Coach Atchison on the call.
