[Worthingon, MN]—In a section matchup, the Willmar Cardinals Boys Basketball team was able to cruise to a 71-58 victory over the Worthington Trojans. Senior guard Jack Jeffords paced the Cardinals with 19 points, on 7/10 shooting, and going 3/5 from beyond the arc. Guard Terbuto Ochothow put ahead 25 in the defeat.

Willmar had multiple scorers in double digits, with Jacob Rosendahl dropping 13, Chase Dirksen with 12, and Sam Fraser with an 11 point, 10 rebound double double. For the Trojans, Will Brandner also had 16.

With the win, Willmar moves to 6-16. Worthington drops to 11-12 and will try to redeem themselves tomorrow night when they head to Redwood Valley.

Starting off the game, each team was able to score willingly, and stayed even until the 5 minute mark of the half, when Willmar was able to slightly pull away. Heading into the locker room, Willmar held on to a 34-26 lead.

After the intermission, Worthington was able to go on a run and bring it back within two with 12 at 44-42 with 12 minutes to go. After that it was all Willmar, as they never surrendered the lead to under 10. Willmar was able to maintain the strong lead, with key buckets down the stretch by Chase Dirksen and Zach Morrell, and coast to a victory.

Willmar will try keep the energy as they head to Apollo tomorrow, looking for revenge as they take on the Eagles in a CLC matchup. Tune in at 1340 AM/96.3 FM KWLM at 7 pm with Todd Bergeth and Coach Atchison on the Rambow Pregame Show.
