Five plays into the first quarter of their North Central District matchup against the Big Lake Hornets, Willmar Cardinal quarterback Alex Schramm found junior receiver Sam Raitz streaking down the left sideline for a 33-yard touchdown. The Cards were up 7-0 quickly and never looked back, as the Cardinal offense scored 65 points, racking up 400 yards of offense and shutting out the Hornets at Hodapp Field in Willmar.
On the ground the Cardinals amassed 326 yards, with three running backs for more than 75 yards a piece. Senior running back Michael Price ran for 88-yards and three scores in the first half, from 15, 26 and 5 yards. Senior quarterback Alex Schramm ran for 84 yards, scoring from 5 yards out. Sophomore Ramero Trevino dashed for 76 yards. Also scoring for Willmar; junior running back Jaxxon Sjoberg, he totaled 39 yards and scored twice in the second half and sophomore Cullen Gregory had a 2 yard touchdown run.
The final score was Willmar 65, Big Lake 0. Willmar improves to 2-1 and will play host to the Sartell Sabers Friday night, September 24th for Homecoming at Hodapp Field.
