[St.Cloud,MN]—In a CLC matchup, the Apollo Eagles were able to come away with a victory over the Willmar Cardinals by a final score of 71-44. Leading the scoring output for the Eagles was Senior Chang Hoth, scoring 21 while shooting 57% from the field. Topping the stat sheet for the Cards was Senior Guard Jack Jeffords, scoring 10 and grabbing 10 boards.

Starting Center Thomas Diew contributed 13 in the victory for the Eagles. Junior Forward Chase Dirksen had 10 for the Cards in the losing effort.

With the loss, Willmar drops to 6-17(2-11 CLC). Apollo jumps up to 15-6(8-4 CLC) and will try to keep the momentum as they head to Sauk Rapids this Tuesday.

The Eagles got off to a hot start, starting the game on a 23-7 run. After that, Willmar was able to pick up the pace and Apollo ended the half out scoring the Cards just 18-15, leading to a 41-22 deficit at the break for Willmar.

Coming out of the locker room, Apollo was able to keep the energy and the lead, never letting Willmar get closer than 15. Despite their best efforts, Willmar was unable to cut into the lead and Apollo stayed strong to the finish and took the win.

Willmar will try to switch their luck as Rocori will come to visit the Big Red Gym in a CLC matchup this Tuesday. Tune into 1340 AM/96.3 FM KWLM that same night at 6:45 PM as the Willmar Boys Hockey team will start their path to state when they take on Fairmont.
