(Piscataway, NJ) -- The Golden Gopher women's basketball team beat Rutgers last night 62-49, getting 19 points and five assists from point guard Jasmine Powell. Minnesota was playing without head coach Lindsay Whalen on the bench. She underwent emergency appendectomy surgery on Tuesday. Gopher associate head coach Carly Thibault-DuDonis (TEE-boh doo-DONN-is) served as acting head coach and says defense was the key to the victory. Minnesota is now 8-7 overall this season, with a 1-2 Big Ten record. The Scarlet Knights fell to 7-9 overall and 0-4 in the conference. The Gophers will host number-eight Maryland on Sunday at 2 P-M.
