The Willmar Cardinal girls traveled North to take on the Alexandria Cardinals in basketball on Tuesday night but lost their first game of the season by a final score of 57-50.
The two teams went back and forth in the first half. But at the halfway point Alex gained control of the game and led as much by 16. But Willmar chipped away at Alexandria’s lead and were down by 10 at half time 32-22. Alex came out strong in the second half and were up by 17. However, Willmar never gave up and played strong but didn’t have quite enough to come away with a victory. Ella Grove led Alexandria with 25 points. Mackenzie Jones finished with 11 and Sadie Raitz and Madi Linbo had 11 for Willmar.
With the win Alexandria is now 2-1 and Willmar falls to 2-1.
