NL-S girls basketball team 2023

The NL-S girls basketball team lost to the Minnehaha Academy Redhawks in the Class AA Girls State Basketball Tournament quarterfinals with a final score of 50-28.

The Wildcats entered the tournament as the 4th seed with a 28-1 record on the season. The Red Hawks came into the game the 5th seed with a 22-7 record for the year.

The first half was close with neither team able to extend a lead. The play was back and forth with the hustle you’d expect from a playoff contest. The Wildcats went into the break up by one. The halftime score was 20-19.

Minnehaha Academy got off to a fast start in the second half. Once the Redhawks took over the lead, they didn’t relinquish it for the remainder of the game. Minnehaha Academy put up 31 points in the second half. NL-S couldn’t keep up and only scored eight points after the break. Avery Rich led the Wildcats in scoring with 11, Ellery Peterson had 6. With the loss, the Wildcats move into the consolation bracket.
