(New Orleans, LA) -- Kirk Cousins completed all four of his passes -- including a one-yard touchdown to running back Alexander Mattison -- and drove the team 81 yards in eight plays on the opening drive of the first preseason game at New Orleans Friday. The Vikings went on to a 34-25 win over the Saints. Sean Mannion replaced Cousins after that first drive and connected with Olabisi Johnson on an 18-yard touchdown pass in the second quarter, and Minnesota took a 14-12 lead at halftime. The Vikings led 27-25 when Mike Boone broke off a 64-yard touchdown run with 7:23 to go in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. Former Viking Teddy Bridgewater started at quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, as the veteran Drew Brees did not play. The Vikings host the Seahawks one week from Sunday (August 18th) in their second pre-season game.
